Zanzibar government signs an MoU with Oman Data Park to set up a data center

Muscat, October 2022: Maqbool Al-Wahaibi: The Zanzibar government chooses ODP as a strategic partner in the technical fields.

The Government of Zanzibar signed a memorandum of understanding with Oman Data Park to establish, manage and operate a data centre in Zanzibar. This MoU was inked on the sidelines of the official visit of His Excellency Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, to the Sultanate of Oman.

The signing of this agreement followed the success of the first agreement between the government of Zanzibar and Oman Data Park Company last April, in accordance with it, ODP set up a cloud bidding system in Zanzibar.

 This latest agreement is considered as a qualitative addition to the achievements of Oman Data Park, which contributed throughout its journey in providing integrated solutions under one roof  in the field of cloud managed services, data hosting, cyber security, and providing advanced options in the field of web hosting.

The setting of the cloud bidding system and the signing of the data center agreement come within the framework of the Zanzibar government’s plans to automate its attrition systems and transfer toward e-government, while this partnership embodies the successes achieved by Oman Data Park in the areas of cloud systems in and abroad of the Sultanate of Oman.

 The setting, managing and operating of data center in Zanzibar aim at hosting data and information for the public and private sectors inside Zanzibar, in order to enhance information security and maintaining its confidentiality within Zanzibar.

On this occasion, Engineer Maqbool bin Salem Al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Data Park, stated: “The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Zanzibar and Oman Data Park reflects the great confidence that ODP enjoys in the areas of cloud services while the strategic partnership between the two sides aims at benefiting from the capabilities of the Sultanate of Oman in this field, where Oman Data Park is a vital part in this aspects”

Al-Wahaibi also added, “The establishing, managing and operating of a data center to host  information inside Zanzibar represents a qualitative leap for the Zanzibar government, and provides greater security guarantees for data confidentiality, reduces costs for the public and private sectors in Zanzibar, and raises the quality of their cloud services.”

Al-Wahaibi stressed that Oman Data Park will play the role of technology provider for the Zanzibar government to move forward on its path of e-government transformation, pointing out that, this strategic partnership is a pride for the company, while ODP will exert its utmost efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Zanzibar government in this field.
